The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is gearing up for a new season of fabulous concerts in the next several months. The 19th season will kick-off with in spectacular form with A Musical Journey In Anime on Friday, 2 September 2016 and Saturday, 3 September 2016 at 8.30 pm. The concerts will be led by Naohisa Furusawa and will present music composed by acclaimed Japanese artist Joe Hisaishi. He is renowned for hundreds of film scores including collaborations with Studio Ghibli.

There will also be a special concert by Hands Percussion themed Synthesis – A Repertoire of Resonance on Monday, 5 September 2016 at 8.30 pm. This event is part of Diversecity 2016 (Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival), showcasing brilliant musicality, merging cultures and innovations, and various interconnections.

For fans of pop music, conductor Brent Havens will return to the DFP stage and weave his magic with the MPO once more. Previously conducting thematic concerts such as The Music of Queen and The Music of Led Zeppelin, Havens will bring The Music of U2 to symphonic life. The performances are scheduled on Friday, 9 September 2016 and Saturday, 10 September 2016 at 8.30 pm, and Sunday, 11 September 2016 at 3.00 pm respectively.  Joining Havens on stage will be vocalist Brody Dolyniuk.

The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, will present a concert on Thursday, 15 September 2016 at 8.30 pm. performing much loved choir works. Next, the ensemble will collaborate with the MPO on Saturday, 17 September 2016 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 18 September 2016 at 3.00 pm. The concerts will be led by Graham Ross and will feature works by Dukas, Faure, Copland and Bernstein.

The month will wrap-up with family concerts themed Carnival Of The Animals on Saturday, 24 September 2016 at 3.00 pm, and Sunday, 25 September 2016 at 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm. With Graham Ross at the helm, the MPO will entertain children and young adults alike in a programme devoted to the animal kingdom, comprising works by Tchaikovsky, Gershwin, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky and Rossini.
