Local Inspiration
Blending elements of the surrounding area’s rich heritage with modern amenities, the newly opened Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade features 213 contemporary guest rooms that extend from the 8th to 20th floor of a shopping mall. Guests will find spaces decorated with modern art pieces, as well as Peranakan cultural motifs at the all-day dining Chorak restaurant, from the floor tiles to display pieces and food menu. With a rooftop pool bar, lobby lounge and fitness centre, this is a lifestyle hub catering to the hip and trendy.

City Escape
Explore a calmer, less-known side of Bangkok, away from the crowds and traffic, at Riva Arun, a boutique luxury hotel set along the Chao Phraya River. Offering picturesque riverside views surrounded by the city’s treasures such as the Grand Palace and Museum of Siam, the hotel’s 25 rooms reflect ‘Chino Colonial’ culture with a contemporary twist, with carved wooden interiors and ornate ironwork. The rooftop restaurant, Above Riva, serves superb Thai cuisine and cocktails against a backdrop of the city, while the surrounding neighbourhood captivates with traditional houses and shops tastefully converted into stylish guesthouses, cafés and art galleries.

Rejuvenating Retreat
Beachfront resort Soori Bali, designed and owned by renowned architect Soo K. Chan, has been relaunched as the ultimate well-being destination. Set between a volcanic sand beach and terraced rice fields, the resort’s 48 private pool villas and residences meld soothing natural surroundings with contemporary Balinese design elements. As part of the relaunch, the resort introduces a new Indonesian restaurant, moored in a traditional wooden Balinese house amid the rice fields. There will also be more offerings at Soori Spa, with wellness experts providing physical alignment and massage therapies, acupuncture, meditation and neurotherapy procedures.

Lush Paradise
On the pristine island of Phu Quoc off the southern coast of Vietnam lies JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay. Newly opened with 244 rooms, suites and villas, the resort's design harks back to the early 20th century, without compromising on modern comforts. Indulge in dining options from five restaurants and bars, unwind with bespoke spa treatments, or join in the daily cultural activities such as Vietnamese martial arts, lantern-making, cooking classes and yoga. Waterfront activities are available at the private beach, as well as island excursions. For functions, there is a 715-square-metre Grand Ballroom.

Option For Winter
Opening at the end of 2017 in Japan, Club Med Tomamu Hokkaido is a 145-hectare ski resort designed for families and couples who are also ski enthusiasts. The resort mixes Japanese nature and tradition with a modern design, and will include a refined luxury space offering dedicated concierge and personalised services. Free ski lessons are available, along with access to 28 ski slopes and brand-new facilities such as lifts and gondolas. Enjoy the beauty of nature while tasting international and local cuisine at the Gourmet Lounge, before heading to exciting spaces such as the Mina Mina Beach and fitness centre.
