Cafes have their work cut out for them these days. Not only do they have to serve good coffee and/or cakes, they also have to be Gram-worthy to draw the crowds!
The latest to join the buzz is Cielo 957, located in Gokseong, Jeollanam-do. Known for its rolling green hills, the district is located in the southwest of the Korean peninsula, an eight-hour train ride from Seoul. While the beautiful natural surroundings act as a perfect backdrop for the cafe, that’s not the only reason why crowds have been flocking to the place since it opened its doors in late April.
Spanning two floors, the cafe’s elegant but contemporary aesthetics are designed for Gram lovers, with a front facing a picturesque lake, spacious and brightly lit interiors and unique touches such as a chandelier leaning against the top of a piano, and tree branch installations paired with hanging light bulbs. The floor to ceiling glass windows and steel frames give it a modern, industrial finish.
The highlight that has visitors queuing up for over an hour just to get that perfect shot is the stairway just outside the cafe, dubbed the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by netizens. When taken from certain angles, it seems as if one is walking up into the sky, hence the nickname. Social media enthusiasts have wasted no time in coming up with creative poses, some even photoshopping fun memes into their pictures. Here are some of our favourites:
